ABOUT Kazanlak
Kazanlak (population: 65.000) is the capital of the rose oil production in Bulgaria, lying at the eastern end of the world-famous Rose valley. Kazanlak's rose gardens are the largest rose gardens in the whole world. The town is located near the geographical centre of the country, 200 km east of the capital Sofia, 108 km northeast of the second Bulgarian city - Plovdiv and 185 km west of the second biggest Bulgarian city on the Black Sea - Bourgas. The area is abundant with traces of ancient civilization as far back as 2000 BC. Close to the town is The UNESCO World Heritage site – The Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak dating from the Hellenistic period, around the end of the 4th century B.C. It is located near Seutopolis, the capital city of the Thracian king Seutes III, and is part of a large Thracian necropolis. The landscape in the area is picturesque, with mid-height mountain ranges on opposite sides, and is especially marvelous in May when rose fields blossom. Every year in the first week of June there is a Rose fest in Kazanlak with a "Queen of Roses" beauty contest. The Rose fest attracts thousands of Bulgarian and foreigners visitors.
